The Port of Milford Haven has been recognised for its outstanding commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion, winning the Inclusive Workplace Award at the British Ports Association Awards.

The award celebrates organisations that are leading the way in creating workplaces where everyone feels valued, supported and able to thrive. It recognises the Port's ongoing efforts to embed inclusion across every level of the organisation, from leadership and employee development to workplace design and community engagement.

The achievement builds on the Port's recognition as one of the UK's Best Workplaces for Women™ 2026, where it was ranked among the top 100 organisations nationally, demonstrating how inclusive leadership and positive action can drive meaningful change in traditionally underrepresented industries.

Over the past three years, the Port has invested in organisation-wide equality, diversity and inclusion training, helping to create a culture where every colleague feels respected and empowered. More recently, it introduced dedicated neurodiversity training, designed to increase understanding of different ways of thinking and working while enabling people to perform at their best.

In 2025, the Port further demonstrated its commitment through the development of its new support services headquarters at Sybil House, where accessibility, wellbeing and inclusivity were key considerations from the outset. Features such as step-free access, automated doors, accessible facilities, wellbeing spaces and flexible environments were deliberately designed to ensure the building works for everyone.

Tom Sawyer, CEO at the Port said: “Winning the Inclusive Workplace Award is a fantastic achievement for the Port and a reflection of the culture we are building together. Inclusion isn't a standalone initiative for us, it's embedded in how we lead, how we support one another, and how we create opportunities for future generations. I'm incredibly proud of our people and everything they have done to make the Port a place where everyone can thrive.”

The Port's commitment extends beyond its own workforce. Through its involvement in the SPARC Alliance (Sustainable Power, Renewables and Construction) initiative, the Port is helping to inspire more young women to pursue careers in STEM and energy-related sectors.

Working alongside partners including RWE Renewables, Blue Gem Wind, Floventis Energy, Ledwood Engineering, Pembrokeshire County Council and Pembrokeshire College (and grant funding from Swansea Bay City Deal), SPARC has already supported more than 200 female pupils across seven secondary schools in Pembrokeshire. The programme has delivered significant increases in knowledge of STEM careers; strengthening confidence, aspirations and STEM participation.

The award highlights the Port's ongoing commitment to building a workplace where everyone can succeed while helping to create a more diverse and sustainable future workforce for Pembrokeshire and beyond.
