The Port of Milford Haven’s new state-of-the-art pilot vessel has arrived in Welsh waters following a successful delivery voyage from the Netherlands.

The vessel, named Llanion, has been under construction at Next Generation Shipyards in Holland where the shipyard’s experts worked closely with the Port’s team to develop a world-class craft. Featuring the latest pilot specific hull design, self-righting ability and industry-leading safety standards, Llanion is engineered to support safe and efficient operations in all conditions.

Its arrival marks the culmination of a five-year collaboration involving the Port of Milford Haven, BMT, Camarc Design and Next Generation Shipyards. Teams from across the Port played a central role in the project, ensuring the vessel meets the operational needs of the waterway and delivers exceptional performance for customers.

Tom Sawyer, Chief Executive at the Port of Milford Haven, said “This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation. Working closely with our partners and our own technical teams, we now have a vessel that reflects the highest standards of design, safety and operational capability. Llanion will play a key role in supporting the safe and reliable movement of vessels on the Milford Haven Waterway for years to come.”

Dirk Keizer, Technical Director at Next Generation Shipyards, commented “The building of Llanion is a project we are extremely proud of. In close collaboration with the Port of Milford Haven and the other partners, we have delivered a vessel that excels in safety, performance and reliability. This vessel reflects our commitment to innovation and quality, and we are delighted to see her now in Pembrokeshire.”

Camarc Design’s Technical Director, Ed Soothill, said “It is wonderful to see Llanion arriving in Milford Haven. Our team are proud to have delivered the design for this state-of-the-art pilot vessel and we wish the Port many years of successful operation.”

Steven Lee, BMT’s Chief Naval Architect, said “BMT is delighted to see the arrival of Llanion at the Port of Milford Haven. This vessel represents the culmination of five years of close collaboration, delivering the Port’s next generation pilot boat to enhance operational capability and safety for years to come. We wish all who sail on Llanion safe and successful voyages, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the Port as it strengthens its position as the UK’s largest energy port.”
