Survey vessel ‘Prince Madog’ conducting Geophysical nearshore multibeam surveys at Turbot Bank and Gowan Shoals.
- MARINERS ARE HEREBY ADVISED that nearshore multibeam geophysical surveys will be undertaken in the areas of Turbot Bank and Gowan Shoals, from 7th to 18th September 2025. (See attached images with marked operational areas).
Turbot Bank Operational Area
- The surveys will be carried out by Bangor University’s 35m research vessel ‘Prince Madog’ behalf of NRW (Natural Resource Wales), which may have restricted ability to manoeuvre during operations.
- The vessel will exhibit the prescribed shapes and lights in accordance with the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea, maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 12.
- The Master of the survey vessel will remain in contact with Milford VTS and will keep clear of the port’s approach channels when requested to allow safe passage of inbound/outbound vessels.
- Mariners are requested to pass at a safe speed, maintain a safe distance of at least 200 metres from the vessel, and always navigate with caution when operating in the area

- This Notice to Mariners will self-cancel at 23:59 on 18th Sept 2025.
