Milford Youth Matters has received support from the Port of Milford Haven for the fifth consecutive year. The funding will mean the charity can continue developing projects and facilitate training for 11-18 year olds in the Milford Haven area.

The Port and Milford Youth Matters have a long-running relationship which has resulted in many popular initiatives over the years including Under The Bridge, WAVE and, most recently, the hugely successful Winter Warmer Nights at Milford Haven Football Club. Combined, these events have resulted in many positive benefits for the area, most significantly a reduction in anti-social behaviour, safe spaces for young people to socialise in, access to a variety of free activities and education on important life skills such as confidence and team work.

During 2023, the Winter Warmer Nights will continue to provide young people with a warm meal and sheltered space in which to socialise with friends every Wednesday night until Easter. Shortly after, the twice-weekly Under The Bridge sessions will offer a wide range of free fun activities throughout the summer holidays.

Dayle Gibby, Milford Youth Matters Co-ordinator, commented:

“We at Milford Youth Matters would like to extend our thanks to the Port of Milford Haven for their commitment to supporting us. It’s great to have a partner who shares the same vision as us and is dedicated to making a difference in the community when it’s needed most. We are looking forward to using this financial contribution to provide invaluable and exciting opportunities for young people. We are excited to continue our work together and strengthen our partnership further.”

Hollie Phillips, Community Engagement Assistant at the Port of Milford Haven, added:

“The work that Dayle and his team carry out is changing young people’s lives on a daily basis and we’re proud to collaborate with such a forward thinking, proactive charity. We believe that investing in the lives of future generations will help create a prosperous future for the town. By giving them the opportunity to grow in confidence and gain qualifications, young people will be equipped with the skills they need to join the workforce and enjoy economic success in the area they call home. I’m really looking forward to working closely with the Milford Youth Matters team again to provide even more opportunities throughout 2023.”

Port of Milford Haven

The Port of Milford Haven is the UK’s top energy port and Wales’ busiest port handling around 20% of Britain’s seaborne trade in oil and gas.  It is widely recognised in the industry as the energy capital of the UK.

The Port, along with the cluster of energy-related businesses along the Waterway, is a key driver of economic activity in Pembrokeshire, attracting inward investment and supporting over 4,000 jobs.

The Port of Milford Haven also owns and operates Pembroke Port and Milford Waterfront.  Activities such as cargo handling, ferry operations, fish landing and cruise calls as well as a first class marina are spread across these two sites.

One of the most prominent on the West Coast, the Port is in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the only Coastal National Park in Great Britain. It is marked as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and has many areas designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The Port of Milford Haven is a trust port – an independent, commercially run organisation that has statutory responsibilities governed by its Acts, to maintain and improve navigation and the provision of Port and Harbour services and facilities.  Additionally, the Port provides significant financial and in-kind support to a wide variety of local causes.  All profits are retained within the business to fund these objectives.
