Meet Craig Davies, ICT Apprentice at the Port of Milford Haven.

Craig, from St Clears, joined the Port as an apprentice in September last year after studying at Pembrokeshire College and has been explaining what the benefits are of learning in this way.

Why did you apply for an apprenticeship?

I applied for an apprenticeship because I wanted to develop my skills and advance in my career without being confined to a classroom. I have found that learning on the job has enabled me to put my knowledge and skills into practical use helping me to develop as an IT apprentice.

How are you finding it? Have you learnt much?

It’s great, I am really enjoying my time as an apprentice. I have learnt lots over the past 5 months and I am continuing to learn more and more every week.

Would you recommend this way of learning and working to others?

Yes, I found that there are many advantages of doing this apprenticeship. One of the benefits is that I am being paid while still learning. However, the main benefit is that I am gaining experience, something that is hard to get when starting a new career especially as a young adult.

What are your future career ambitions?

Right now, my main career ambition is to complete my apprenticeship and to keep improving my skills, with the goal to be retained once my term as an apprentice has finished.
