Over the coming days, we hope that COP26 will herald a new dawn in the pursuit of greener fuels.

The reality is that the pace of change is only going to accelerate as global businesses, national governments and the public align towards a more sustainable future.

As the country’s energy port, the businesses operating along the Haven Waterway stand ready to deliver a fourth energy revolution.

The port is proud to be part of a public-private sector coalition - focused on future of the Milford Haven Waterway - pushing forward plans to ensure that the UK’s green industrial revolution is firmly rooted in south west Wales.

Energy has always been the lubricant of the economy and fuel sources have always been in a state of perpetual change.

Political leadership is one thing, but to deliver net zero by 2050, or before, we need to meld the best of the private and public sectors to deliver high-quality green jobs for the future.

Energy is in the DNA in Pembrokeshire, but, in a highly competitive global marketplace, the transition to net zero needs to be carefully planned.

This will ensure that the major employment and skills, transmission and pipelines, natural capital and distribution facilities along the Haven Waterway are repositioned over time to maximise the economic output of a greener future.

With the right support, we are certain that the port will be central to Wales’ transition to a decarbonised future through the evolution of technology.

The hydrogen economy, sustainable fuels and clean energy generation from wave, tidal and floating offshore wind (FLOW) will be integral to Milford Haven’s future.

Rooted in R&D, the port’s Pembroke Dock Marine project will provide a green energy manufacturing hub for developers as we seek to build out the offshore wind development area in the Celtic Sea.

With the ability to expand the site at scale, combined with the backing of ORE Catapult, RWE, Blue Gem Wind and others, the future is positive as we look to create a new green industry.
