A juvenile fish stock survey in multiple areas of the Milford Haven waterway will be conducted between 23rd - 29th September 2025.
- MARINERS ARE HEREBY ADVISED that, fish stock surveys will be undertaken on the Haven between 23rd and 29th September 2025.
- Survey equipment will consist of:
- 2 sets of double ended fyke nets roughly 2.5m in length. Each net and buoy will be tagged with Natural Resources Wales labels including contact details. Fyke nets will be set as close to shoreline as possible to avoid navigable channel.
- Seine net - 30m x 2m, 14mm mesh size in wings with 5mm in centre, deployed by boat approx. 15m from shore then retrieved by hand onto bank.
- Beam trawl, 14mm mesh 3m long, towed behind survey vessel.
- Survey vessels SALAR VIE (7.2m Cheetah Marine Catamaran) and SKALMEY will conduct the surveys.
- Survey will consist of 60 sample sites within the areas provided. The Haven has been split into 5 working areas with the following catches planned:
- Pembroke River: 6 seines / 3 beam trawls / 3 fyke nets.
- Milford Haven Main Channel: 6 seines / 3 beam trawls / 3 fyke nets.
- Carew & Cresswell: 6 seines / 3 beam trawls / 3 fyke nets.
- Eastern Cleddau: 6 seines / 3 beam trawls / 3 fyke nets.
- Western Cleddau: 6 seines / 3 beam trawls / 3 fyke nets.
- Mariners are required to navigate with caution in these areas and pass clear of survey equipment.
