Notice to Mariners

Notice To Mariners No.140 of 2021 - META Deployment of Scientific Instrument at Warrior Way



1.  MARINERS ARE HEREBY ADVISED that, on 12th November, the workboat “RB 1” will be deploying a scientific instrument comprising of a 300kg triangular-shaped frame, 10m from corner to corner, with an automated air lift recovery system. The unit is to be taken from Rudders Boatyard and deployed onto the seabed in the Marine Energy Test Area (META) location.

2.  The deployment will take place within the Warrior Way META site at approx. position: 51°42’13N 004°55’.36

3.  The work boat “RB 1” will deploy the equipment, show the appropriate day shapes and maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 12. Please maintain a safe distance from this vessel.

4.  The deployment aims to test a novel scientific instrument for collecting tidal current data. A surface marker buoy (unlit) will be deployed, this will be YELLOW and marked “ NO MOORING, META TEST, SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENT – DO NOT TOUCH, SWANSEA UNIVEIRTY – 07808 196 060”

5.  The instrument is expected to be in place for approx. 2 months.

6.  Admiralty chart 3275 and IMRAY Y26 and 2600 Atlas refer.

7.  This Notice to Mariners will be canceled once the instrument has been recovered.
