The Port of Milford Haven is in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the only Coastal National Park in Great Britain. The unique environmental climate of the waterway and islands is of international importance and as such, has numerous foreshores designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), sits within a European Marine Special Area of Conservation and the islands of Skomer and Skokholm are part of a Special Protection Area (SPA).
The Skomer Marine Nature Reserve is one of only three Marine Nature Reserves in the UK with thousands of Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Cormorants, Shags and Grey seals. The island of Skokholm has a colony of Manx Shearwaters which is probably the third largest in the world, containing approximately 15% of the world’s population and is also home to breeding Storm Petrels which account for 20% of the EU population.
