Recreation Plan

The Waterway Recreation Plan, published in 2005, is the latest in a series stretching back twenty-seven years. It differs from its predecessors by concentrating more on the strategy and actions required to meet our vision and aims. Further communication can be found in our annually produced Waterway Leisure User Guide.

Our policy for leisure is to continue to provide zones for specific usage and encourage compliance through education and persuasion before enforcement and prosecution if necessary.

The Waterway, like the UK nationally, is increasingly being used for leisure purposes. This is beginning to put pressure on the areas set aside for moorings and other activities. The challenge for us is to manage such increasing use so as to continue to provide safe enjoyment for all.

The Recreation Plan is produced in partnership with a number of regulating bodies sitting on a working group, along with consultees who provide invaluable comments.

The Plan is enhanced through the provision of a full time Water Ranger, jointly funded by Milford Haven Port Authority and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority. This partnership approach provides added value for both authorities but perhaps more importantly for the Waterway itself.
