Milford Haven Port Authority is responsible for the biggest port in Wales, and the third largest in the UK. During 2011, the Port handled over 71m gross tons of shipping which amounted to nearly 49m tonnes of cargo. The Port is in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the only Coastal National Park in Great Britain.
As a trust port - an independent, commercially run organisation, the Authority has statutory responsibilities governed by its Acts, to maintain and improve navigation and the provision of Port and Harbour services and facilities. All profits are retained within the Authority to fund these objectives.
Milford Haven holds its status as one of the largest oil and gas ports in northern Europe - managing an assortment of crude oil carriers, refined product and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) shipping and the largest LNG carriers in the world. The Port serves the two oil refineries of Valero and Murco, as well as the biggest petroleum tank farm in the UK, SemLogistics. It was also integral to the establishment of two new LNG terminals in 2009.
With 25 per cent of the UK's petrol and diesel provisions as well as up to 30 per cent of the UK's gas requirements being handled through the Port's waterways, Milford Haven is at the centre of a developing UK energy hub.
